We're in dining heaven with mismatched chairs :)

Dining settings in the past have generally been quite tame and rigid
and lets face it ... a little boring!

The dining room is a place of fun and happiness
and your setting should represent that!

Steer away from the good old matching table and chairs that your parents had...
it's outdated and super uncool :)

The key to achieving the mismatched look is to keep the table quite simple
(either a timber or stainless steel legged table works perfectly)
and then decorate it with mismatched chairs!

If you're nervous about it all 'not matching' ...
(even though that's kinda the point!)
you can maintain consistency through the style of chair or the colour...

Personally we love a mixture of materials, textures, colours, prints and styles!

Have fun with it and don't take it too seriously :)

Our favourite renovators on the block Sophie and Dale used mismatched chairs
in their dining setting! We also LOVE the exposed brick and handmade
'bon appétit' sign. Perfection!

Here are some of our favourite ways to use mismatched chairs!

Here at Sky Parlour we also have a range of chairs available for you to purchase!
See here for details and more of our furniture x

{ inspired by science }

 We love old science laboratory inspired decor... whether it's vintage chemistry/science bottles, test tubes, beakers or a flask these glass lab vessels are geek-chic and look great when converted into vases or just propped up together on a mantel piece of shelf.

These eerie little vintage treasures have an old time feel that add an element of intrigue in your home... The best part is that they are really affordable, they come in all shapes and sizes and in lots of incredible rich colours, the amber and cobalt-blue apothecary bottles are amazing!

::NEON OBSESSION::

From Milan to Holland NEON is popping up everywhere in the interior world
and we're loving it!

Whether it be a neon door, chair, light fitting or cushion cover
we think everyone should add a burst of neon
to their home...

So what neon touch are we dying over?

----The neon sprayed vintage cutlery---
. AMAZING .

Definitely adding that to the DIY list!

timeless decorating

Clocks have the ability to change the face of a room...
whether it's an oversized farmhouse style clock or a group of
mish mashed small vintage alarm clocks, they create great
focal points throughout your home.

Clocks are very versatile and can be incorporated into any decor style;
rustic, traditional, eclectic, country... there is something very
romantic and dramatic about an old clock.

Whether used for it's function or purely a visual element,
they make such a handsome piece of decor... vintage style clocks
are truly timeless and every house should have plenty of them!

Check out Sky Parlour's rustic yellow wall clock and

{ Pigeon Hole Shelves }

The pigeon hole shelving system was derived from the early
17th century where they were literally used as a hole for pigeons!
This system later developed as a compartment
system for leaving messages and papers...
today they are making an appearance in the interior design world and
we think there is nothing cuter than a pigeon hole shelf
to store all of your collectables, jewellery, candles, letters, keys
and anything else you can pop in there!

Pigeon hole shelves are super cute for the kids room
to display their books, wooden toys, dolls and cars!

{ an indian affair }

India is one of the oldest civilisations in the world.
Throughout its history it has been invaded multiple times,
from the Greeks, the Moguls, the Portugese, the British and even the French...

These invasions brought many influences to a country
that was already so culturally diverse. Today this richness in culture and traditions
evokes a celebration of life that has translated into their illustrious
architecture, furniture, textiles and ceramics...

India celebrates its people, languages, multiple faiths
and festivals through their incredible attention to detail and love of colour...

Cable Knit Coziness!

As the weather cools down there's nothing better than
snuggling up on the couch with a knitted blanket.

Our prediction for blanket trends this season is the cable knit!

Cable knitting usually produces a fabric that is less flexible and more dense than typical knitting which means it'll keep you nice and warm during the colder months!

We are seriously obsessed with cable knit throws and we think - the more the better.
Get a bunch of different patterned cable knit blankets and
stack them up on a chair or couch for a beautifully textured cozy feel.

Keep your eyes peeled for some beautiful knitted blankets
coming soon to Sky Parlour.

Rope Decor

Rope was originally made from hemp.
It was recognized early on for the toughness and durability of its fibres,
which could be picked apart and woven into a variety of useful materials.

Rope was still made from natural fibers until the 1950's when synthetic materials started being used. Today commonly used fibers for making rope include, manila, hemp, linen, cotton, coir, jute, nylon, polypropylene, polyethylene, Kevlar and polyester. Although thousands of years has passed since rope making was first created, how we make and use ropes today stays virtually unchanged except for the materials and technology we use.

We love the versatility of rope especially in interiors.
It can be used for a nautical vibe, french country setting,
industrial look and even in the children's room!

We think it adds a nice textured accent in any environment...

:: vintage industrial love ::

One of the most popular interior decorating trends
of the moment is Mid 20th century vintage industrial furniture.
They make great fixtures and create stylish yet functional
gathering spaces throughout your home. Vintage industrial furniture
has so much more character than regular furniture, especially pieces that
use bits from old machinery - check out the bike chain stool with the
pedal base and perforated kitchen bins.

A few industrial piece are plenty; a metal pendant light alone has the ability
to change the look of an entire room. There is something so fascinating about
a piece of furniture that has lived a life of its own before it finds a place
in your home. Industrial chic with its classic historic feel creates a
homely space with a rugged and edgy vibe.
