Love Blankets

Known as Moroccan wedding blankets, handira are woven out of sheep's wool, cotton and linen by Berber women in the Middle Atlas mountains of Northern Morocco.

Berber wedding blankets are woven in anticipation of, a wedding, by the bride's female relatives. It can take many hours — even weeks — of work to attach those hundreds of mirrored sequins once the weaving is complete; it is thought that during this collaborative task, the bride's relatives teach her all about the birds and the bees, among other marital duties and expectations. After the wedding ceremony, the bride wears the blanket tied around her neck as a kind of cape. It might be associated with her trip to her new marital home, which could be a chilly ride.

For Berbers, objects and visual motifs contain myriad meanings and purposes. The process of hand-weaving, itself, when undertaken mindfully, is thought to endow the textile with baraka, or blessings.

When complete, the wedding blanket serves not only as warmth and decoration for the bride, but also to ward off evil and to bestow fertility and good luck upon the newlyweds.

We are personally obsessed with them and love that they can be used in so many ways!
The detail, pattern, texture and colours on these blankets is so beautiful and they are an amazing addition to any room. As well as being a blanket they can be used as wall hangings, rugs and couch throws.
They also make for a very unique and original wedding gift!

Cable Knit Coziness!

As the weather cools down there's nothing better than
snuggling up on the couch with a knitted blanket.

Our prediction for blanket trends this season is the cable knit!

Cable knitting usually produces a fabric that is less flexible and more dense than typical knitting which means it'll keep you nice and warm during the colder months!

We are seriously obsessed with cable knit throws and we think - the more the better.
Get a bunch of different patterned cable knit blankets and
stack them up on a chair or couch for a beautifully textured cozy feel.

Keep your eyes peeled for some beautiful knitted blankets
coming soon to Sky Parlour.

:: { cozy corner } ::

Cushions are one of the small luxuries of life. They add warmth and inspiration
to any home and are a great way to introduce colour into a neutral room.
Whether they are grouped together or used as individual highlights,
cushions make your living room so much more inviting.

Interior decorators LOVE using cushion because they have
the ability to instantly change the look of a room. We have a seriously
unhealthy obsession with cushions too, our homes are filled with them....
and we still want more! In a practical sense our back aches without one,
really.... it's true, we NEED cushions!!!!

Our favourtie right now is without a doubt the crochet cushion!
It adds texture and accentuates furniture throughout your home...
you have to have one if in the kid's room!
